A meeting about child labor, reproduction of poverty was held in Faculty of Social Science in Allameh University
On June 12, which is the international day against child labor, a meeting was held in faculty of social science in Allameh University titled: “child labor, reproduction of poverty” with presence of active NGOs.
In this meeting: Mehrafarin’s street and labor children’s department members were present among students and participants, and informed everyone about sensitivity and importance of such issues.
Four professors gave useful speeches around different child labor issues: (ladies: Mrs. Ahmadnia and Mehran, gentlemen: Dr. Maljoo and Allaeddin) and explained purposeful details in this respect.
Among their speeches, one of the important issues mentioned was the rural and gipsy daughters whom are always the first victims of working children and child labor.
Another point was the research conducted by cooperation of Alzahra university and UNICEF about the reasons that ban girls in villages and rural areas from studying and enrolling in schools, Kohkilooye and Boyerahmad, Kurdestan and Hormozgan provinces were under study.
The questionnaires were:
1- Why don’t they attend school?
2- If they went to school at a time, why do they quit?
Studies clarified that inner and outer reasons in school caused this problem to occur.
Some authorities whom were not natives of that area believed that their parents didn’t let them go to school.
Parents may not be wise enough, but what we realized from the responses, declared that economic, cultural and educational obstacles were also on their way.
Cultural reasons such as daughter’s shouldn’t study, it is useless for them and so forth.
Parents believed that it is not a good idea for a girl to attend school or a girl will get married and will belong to her husband’s family, why shall we investigate in educating her?
Illiteracy of native residents, limited understanding of parents about education and preferring boys to girls when it comes to education, and last but not least, the absence of an educated role model for girls, were other cultural reasons, just to name a few.
It is worthwhile to consider financial aspects of this project, some software and hardware facilities had a significant role in creating this situation.
Lack of sufficient schools, native instructors, WC and hygienic facilities, especially for girls whom have passed puberty, caused serious problems.
Second part of this meeting was presentation of walldrama movie for audience, in presence of its director, Mr. Abbas Amini.
This movie is showing child labor and their related problems.
