Benyamin doesn’t feel well, pray for him
The story of a child labor that is tied to hospital’s bed. Benyamin doesn’t feel well, pray for him. Every day before the sun rises, he woke up and carried his bag on his back, get out of the house, without having breakfast. Those days he did not wish for colorful toys or going to amusement park, he just wanted to have a deep sleep.
He felt sleepy and couldn’t stop yawning, but as soon as he left the house, sleep fades away. Anyone that saw him, would think that Benyamin is going to school, but in his bag you could find chewing gum, hair accessories and so forth instead of books and stationaries.
Now Benyamin is sleeping. A deep sleep he might not wake up from… even if he wants to wake up he can’t. Benyamin’s backpack is full of chewing gums he hasn’t sold and wound plasters that no longer can heal his wounds….
Dreams that didn’t come true…
Benyamin parents were addicted to drugs, that is why he never had a childhood and was different from children his age. He thought about making money probably, a few years ago, he wished to study and become an engineer, but….
Getting to know him in the last days of this year…
The last days of winter last year, through Mehrafarin consoler, we got to know Benyamin. A thin boy with a black face. It was near Nowruz and the streets were full of Nowruz traffic. That very day, Benyamin told me about his dreams: I like to have new clothes for Nowruz. He paused for a while then continued: I also want to look handsome.
I have missed Behnam…
After befriending with him, he talks about his difficult life with his family, the days he didn’t have anything to eat and must work hard to feed his family….
He talks about Negar and Behnam, about his sister and brother that had nothing to eat, about his addicted parents that used drugs in front of their children.
He then also talks about Behnam….
About his brother that was born in 1394 and a few months after he was born, he was transferred to Welfare organization because of the family’s bad situation.
Now the same Benyamin that talked about his dreams with enthusiasm, is sleeping on hospital bed.
Benyamin doesn’t feel well…
Consoler of Mehrafain charity, Miss Narjes Reza Ali, talks about Benyamin and his family’s condition. Both of Benyamin’s parents are addicted to drugs and don’t have a good financial condition. They have two other kids, Negar and Behnam, that the last baby, Behnam, has been transferred to Welfare organization.
Mehrafarin consoler continues: the family lived in Boomehen, the house they lived in had no facility, the roof leaked in winter and hot summers made it hard to live inside. That is why the family decided to move to Amol, to a new house…
Reza Ali adds: after moving to Amol, Benyamin’s situation go harder. In Tehran, he lived with his grandfather and living in the new house was very hard for him….
That is why he escaped a few times and started to wander in the streets. When he was out of the house, they took him to one of child labor centers. He told them: I have to stay here, I saw my younger brother, but….
This consoler continues: after his grandfather’s referring to child labor centers and asking to have Benyamin back home, Welfare organization send Benyamin home, with court permission.
After he went back home, he escaped from the house and this time he went to Amol and on his way he sold a few chewing gums and plasters, but when he wanted to pass the highway to reach the bus, a car hit him.
Benyamin doesn’t feel well now and is hospitalized in ICU unit. Pray for him, he is unconscious.
Maybe if we work hard together and by cooperation of related state organs, we might be able to create a better situation for Benyamin and children like him and support them in proper manner.
We should probably be more careful about returning these children to their families…
