The last statistics of addicted mothers and children under support of Mehrafarin charity
CEO of Mehrafarin reported statistics about the recent situation of mothers and children, dealing with addiction and noted: these statistics are presented to ministry of health and can be used to diagnose and enhance the presence of this ministry in order to reduce the damages in area of addicted mothers and children, thus useable for other organizations, as well.
The earlier exact reports of this charity led to issuance of a proclamation by ministry of health, in which all the infants born from addicted mothers, should stay in hospital to pass medical procedures and after that if the family is not eligible to take care of the infant, he/she must be given to related organs to be taken care of.
As a non-governmental organization supported by society, Mehrafarin charity has always been helping government and has helped them in better performance of acts in parliament and acts such as this one.
Daneshvar continued: it is almost two years that we are helping government to perform this act. 51 consolers in Tehran and 17 consolers in other cities have presented clear and precise statistics to organizations, politicians and authorities in order to help them take effective measurements to help develop the conditions for this part of society.
The number of mothers that have been addicted to drugs, in the last two years of activities of Mehrafarin, were 765, which all of the mentioned mothers were diagnosed while pregnancy or while giving birth and received services from charity to reduce probable damages.
505 mothers had ID cards and 260 of them didn’t. 737 were Iranian citizens and 28 of them were afghan immigrants. The average age of mothers was from 25 to 30. 3 of them was from 10 to 15 and 5 cases were aged from 55 to 60.
These mothers gave birth to total of 1625 children, which 936 of them had ID cards, while 606 of these children didn’t.
The main reason that the children didn’t have ID cards was that they were born form unregistered marriages. Our activists and consolers, considering the existing laws for these children, have not been able to do anything in this respect, which is indeed full of problems and warnings.
Daneshvar continues: 1341 of these children had Iranian citizenship but 77 of them were afghans.
Average age of these children are less than two years’ old which means 523 of these children were homeless in the first year of their lives.
Mehrafarin consolers have taken measurements to avoid transfer of addiction from mothers to their children by banning mothers from breastfeeding and have asked for help and collect money to afford milk powder for these children.
Daneshvar mentioned the type of drug the mothers used: 125 of cases used opium, 200 cases used amphetamines, 104 of the used heroin and the rest used other drugs, worthwhile to mention that 200 cases used combination of drugs.
By steps that social consolers and other social organizations have taken, 287 of these infants wre transferred to nursery houses and welfare organization.
These children were at the edge of child abuse, threatened to be sold or to be left outside alone.
The rest of these children that are living with their mothers are in a bad situation. They need to receive services to reduce damages and are weekly monitored by social consolers.
We will inform you about challenges these children will face growing up, respectively.
We hope that these reports will be helpful to make better decisions and acts by government and related organizations which will present effective measurements in this respect.
